Cornwall Prints - The Crowns Mine Botallack
The Crowns Mine Botallack
The Crowns Engine houses are perched picturesquely (or should that
be precariously) on the cliff edge just above the sea. Not a place for
anyone who suffers from vertigo, but a place where the ocean can be
calm one minute and a raging torrent within moments.
The Crowns Mine dates back to the early 18th century and is an iconic image to Cornwall’s glorious heritage.
The Crowns were named after a group of rocks called the ’Three Crowns’
and were visited by the then Prince & Princess of Wales in 1865.
DVD Red Sails in the Bay
This film documents the revival of interest in Cornish luggers with their iconic canvas sails.
Members of Mounts Bay Luggers Association recount their experience in the rebuild of the Happy Return. Barnabus, Ripple, and Dolly Pentreath also feature.
The staggering voyage of The Mystery in 1854 is described.
Finally we experience first-hand the difficulties involved in sailing aboard a lugger at the Mousehole Sea Salt and Sail event.

Cornwall Prints - Ding Dong Mine Print - A2
Ding Dong Mine was built in 1865 and formed part of Cornwallis oldest mines.
Ding Dong Mine can be seen on top of its hill top from many different directions in West Cornwall. Records from the 13th Century show the name as ‘Dindods’ the meaning of which seems to have lost in time.
The current name Ding Dong probably come from the bell that used to rung to bring up the final shift. The mine closed in 1880 although they did try to reopen it in 1920. The bell now resides in Madron Church.
