Promoting your Event with a PDF Poster

Use the Cornwall Calendar to distribute a PDF Poster of your event to everyone at no cost. Supporters can print off copies and distribute - all you do is upload it once to the site then start promoting the entry and the availability of your poster!

Create a Poster in a PDF format.

You must consider way you are putting up the poster. You want users to download and print off the PDF on their office or home printer.

A graphic intensive poster with full colour looks great on the screen but may not win you many friends when they realise the cost and time of printing them off to distribute.

If you already have a supply of professionally printed posters the distribute them in the normal way.

For electronic distribution through the Cornwall Calendar keep it simple:

  • * Event Title
  • * Location
  • * Date/s
  • Brief Description

* These should be in the largest font to grab the attention of anyone who glances at the poster. Avoid reversed out text if possible.

There are plenty of Free PDF creators out there. If you do not have one try Primo PDF available here: http://www.primopdf.com/

Here is a Sample for a hypothetical event at Falmouth Lifeboat Station.

A very simple black and white created using Word then made into a PDF. You could add Email addresses, Phone numbers, Ticket Prices etc but keep it simple to enable users to print it off.

Enter your event, upload the PDF,images and event details.

How to encourage supporters to promote the Event.

As soon as the Event has gone live, find it on the Calendar, copy the URL and send it to friends, colleagues, supporters asking them to download the PDF.

Ask them to print as many copies as they can use and start distributing it and suggest where they might distribute the posters.

  • Village Notice Boards
  • Local Shop Windows
  • Notice Boards in Work Places
  • Hand them out to workplace colleagues
  • Cafes
  • Pop through the doors of neighbours that might be interested.

Supports can be amazingly inventive when it comes to finding places to distribute and publicise events so encourage them.

Are you or any of your supporters Twitter Users?

Ask them to Tweet or re-tweet the event by using the "Tweet This" button on the event entry. e.g "Please support the XYZ Event by downloading and distributing the Poster".
