Family organise a barn dance to thank the RNLI lifeguards who saved fathers life The family of a man who was given lifesaving first aid by RNLI lifeguards on Polzeath beach in North Cornwall in July 2011 are hosting a special barn dance at Launceston Town Hall on Saturday 17 March at 6pm to thank the charity’s lifesavers. 57 year old Alan Cowan from Tintagel suffered a cardiac arrest after nearly drowning while out surfing on a foam board with his 12 year old son on 3 July 2011. Alan who can’t remember anything from the experience has since made a full recovery and visited the lifeguards only a couple of weeks after the event to thank them accompanied by his wife Barbara Degener and son Mavi. To show their gratitude and support the RNLI Alan’s wife Barbara Degener is hosting a barn dance. The live music will be played by three youth string orchestras run under the umbrella of Music Cornwall. Triggshire Strings, Launceston Strings and Caradon Strings will provide the traditional live music. Tickets are £5 for adults, £2 for under 18 and free for under 5. The tickets include a free pasty sponsored by Blakes, Liskeard.
