THE BARTERED BRIDE Jenik and Marenka are in love, but her parents don't approve of the match. They each scheme to outwit their elders, especially the village marriage-broker, but almost double-cross each other! In addition to the virtuoso instrumental and vocal writing, frequent dances and a troupe of traveling circus performers make Smetana's The Bartered Bride a buoyant comic masterpiece.
