12/12/2009 - 03/01/2010
Now in their 45th year, the Christmas lights in Mousehole are a stunning sight, with floating displays of lights in the harbour and around the streets. The 2009 ‘switch-on’ will be held on Saturday 12 December at 7.30pm. This year the lights will be switched on by the elder Statesmen of the Mousehole Male Voice Choir, The Male Voice Choir have been celebrating their Centenary Year during 2009. The Carolaire service takes between 20 – 30 minutes depending on the weather. From Sunday 13 December to Sunday 3 January the lights will be switched on from 5pm approximately until 11pm, with the exception on Saturday 19th December when the lights will be switched off from 8pm – 9pm in remembrance of the crews of the Solomon Browne lifeboat and Union Star coaster. The last night of the Christmas lights will be Sunday 3 January 2010. Mousehole's narrow streets make parking difficult so make the most the park and ride scheme from Penzance and arrive stress free. Buses run aprox every 30 minutes. There will be the usual open-air Carolaire service at the entrance to the North Quay. The ‘Carolaire Choir’, comprising of the Mousehole Male Voice Choir and members of the Mousehole Chapel Choir, together with the Pendeen Silver Band, will lead the community singing. On the 23rd December is Tom Bawcock's Eve, with the famous Star Gazey Pie prepared and served in all the village pubs in celebration of Tom Bawcock, the legendary fisherman who braved gigantic seas in order to catch fish to alleviate famine in the village.
