Draw Promises a Festival of great Rugby at Newquay Exciting, fast and beautiful rugby is promised this July at Newquay Sports Centre, following the Match Draw for the Newquay Surf 7s International Rugby festival. Top seven-a-side rugby teams promise a mouth watering taste of running rugby in Cornwall again this year, when the top internationally-renowned teams were drawn to compete for over £10,000 worth of prize money. Tournament Organiser Andy Hawken said: “Fans of rugby are in for a real treat during the weekend of the 18th and 19th of July at Newquay Sports Centre! The demand by top 7-a-side teams to come and play in Cornwall has been quite amazing.” “Last year’s hugely successful tournament ensured that rugby players and their teams clamoured to return to Newquay once again to compete and to also enjoy all that Cornwall provides.” “To add to the fun and variety of the weekend, Cornwall’s favourite entertainer Jethro is supporting the event by performing on the Saturday evening, with proceeds from ticket sales going to Precious Lives, the Children’s Hospice for Cornwall.” Newquay Surf 7s International Rugby Tournament has quickly become a major seven-a-side competition. Although only in its second year, it has attracted the best in professional sevens rugby. More than 100 seven-a-aside teams from all over the UK, including Ireland, will compete in Cornwall’s biggest ever sevens tournament. The Newquay Surf 7’s International Rugby Tournament 2009 will provide a festival of rugby on Saturday July 18th and Sunday 19th starting at 10am each day. The annual sporting event will culminate in a Celebration Dinner to be held at the Glendorgal Resort and Spa on the Sunday evening. The headline teams taking part in the top class Invitation competition on Saturday the 18th July this year, will include Samurai International (Winners of 2008 Amsterdam Sevens competition), Samurai Barrracudas, Akuma Scorpions, Kooga Wailers, Plymouth Albion, Adidas Marauders, Elite ID, Koru Kamikaze and last year’s Newquay 7s winners, the incredible Army 7’s team. Separate competitions for the Men’s Open and Women’s Open are also planned for the weekend, including the Wooden Spoon Ladies team who won last year’s inaugural Newquay rugby 7s festival. Sunday the 19th July will be great fun as 48 visiting Rugby Clubs from all over the UK compete for the Presidents Cup in their own competition, ensuring a great weekend of fun for all.
